Lakes Entrance
From the highway bridge and up towards the Kalimna jetty for luderick taking grass or weed as preferred bait. Give Cunninghame Arm a try for trevally. Surf beaches are still active for salmon and tailor. Offshore at Six Mile Reef for leather jacket and morwong. Water temperature is around 10⁰-11⁰
Lake Tyers
Try the lower reaches of the lake and the main lake for bream up around the 40cm mark. Best results on plastics and worm. The surf is still producing good salmon and tailor on usual baits. There is a whale carcass in the lake at Lake Tyers Beach.
Mitchell River
Fish are heading up stream towards the highway bridge – best results using soft shell cut crab and prawn, soft plastics and drifting prawn.
Tambo River
Give Butchers Creek, Bennetts Brook to the highway bridge and up to the log hole a go for bream. Try the Tambo Upper area too. Best baits are soft plastics, soft shell, cut crab and drifting prawn.
Nicholson
From Pear Tree and up to the Two Bridges, Car Bodies and The Poplars and give the Junction a look too. Best baits drifting prawn, soft shell, cut crab, worm and give lures a go as well for bream.
Metung
Try town jetties, the Boardwalk, also Chinaman’s and Boxes Creek. Nungurner Jetty is worth a look too. Use soft plastics, worm, prawn and try metal lures for salmon and tailor.
Paynesville
Plenty of mullet about the town jetties and the area around where the Raymond Island ferry runs is a good spot to try. Main results on drifting baits and some nice trout are cruising about also.
Holland's Landing
From Lake Wellington and follow McLennan Strait are best for bream, flathead and also try Storm Point and the Loch Sport marina for bream, salmon and tailor chasing metal lures. If no luck with metal lures, try soft shell and drifting baits.
Marlo
Bream and mullet are in the lake with best results on worm and prawn. On the surf beach salmon and tailor on incoming tide are chasing smashing metal lures. Offshore for gummies on pilchard and squid.
Bemm River
The Entrance is still open and bream are active taking peeled prawn and soft plastics. The Channel and surf beaches have salmon chasing metal lures. Also try blue bait.
Tamboon Inlet
Bream are active around Lake Furnell, Gibb’s Creek and Fisherman’s Landing. Try Egon’s Bank and the Football Ground with soft shell, drifting prawn and soft plastics as the baits of choice.
Mallacoota
Genoa Sand Flats for big sized flathead with prawn as the preferred bait. Give the Bull Ring, Johnson’s Bridge a go for bream and the odd perch. Surf beaches for salmon and tailor on usual baits. Offshore for a mixed bag.
Omeo High Country
Trout season reopens - Saturday 2nd September 2023.
