East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

As cute as a bear (but not a bear)

Home to many cute, fuzzy and furry creatures, there is just something special about seeing a Koala in its natural habitat. Sheltering on an island, these native animals are living their best life. Although koalas can be seen throughout East Gippsland, Raymond Island has a dedicated 1.2km Koala Walk which enhances your chances of getting a closer look at these beautiful mammals. Lazing on a branch, eating eucalyptus leaves is their absolute favourite pastime, so don’t forget to look up.
