East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Bemm River

A river with a town sharing the same name. Often referred to as “The Bemm” by locals and fishing enthusiasts. Starting deep in the Errinundra National Park, the river flows southerly towards the sea. Although the majority of visitors like to launch the boat and wet a line, there is so much more the river has to offer. Take a hike along the McKenzie River Rainforest Walk and don’t forget to keep your wildlife spotting eyes open as the riverside areas are often alive with an abundance of  birdlife. As the river concludes, it meets Sydenham Inlet which is of course popular for - you guessed it, fishing..
