East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Mitta Mitta River

Elevating high in the alpine region, accumulating melted snow and spring rains. The Mitta Mitta is a very clear and inviting river which attracts the adventurous type with its phenomenal white-water rafting. Some even like to go for a dip, but beware of the chilly temperatures. Fly fishing for brown and rainbow trout is a popular activity and for those wishing to live a little less on the edge, enjoy a scenic drive along the Omeo Highway, picking a nice place to pull up for a picnic lunch.
