East Gippsland Fishing Report

Lakes Entrance - Dusky flathead are plentiful, using swim bait soft plastics and hardbody lures. Bream are biting on small diving bodies and fresh baits. Fraser & Rigby Islands have flathead, and whiting biting on pilchards and local prawn. Kingfish are biting on, local prawns, pippies, and soft lures. Prawns can be found in the shallower sections of the lake system. Offshore are landing; school shark, gummy, snapper and flathead. Eastern Beach and Lake Bunga catching salmon with pilchards and squid.
Lake Tyers - The entrance is finally open with tailor and salmon biting well on metal lures. Over on the surf beaches, salmon are being landed using pilchards and squid.
Mitchell River - The fishing conditions at the Mitchell River around the Silt Jetties are currently excellent for anglers targeting bream, having great success, especially with shrimp and local prawns as bait.
Tambo River - From the mouth to the Rough Road area have reported catching bream, though many are on the smaller side. It's advisable to check local regulations for minimum size limits to ensure compliance
Nicholson - Fishing at the mouth of the Nicholson River has been productive recently, with bream and flathead being the primary catches. Anglers have reported success using cut crab and local prawns as baits
Metung - You’ll find trevally, gurnard, and flathead with large swimbait plastics and topwater hardbodies, shrimp and local prawn. There are still plenty of bream to be had, taking fresh prawn, crab and mussels. Trevally and pinkies are also around the Boardwalk. Prawns are still around.
Paynesville/Holland’s Landing - For good quality fish try the shallower waters up to 1 metre in depth from Metung to Loch Sport.
Marlo - The rivers are fishing well, with bream, luderick, and mullet all biting throughout the estuary, taking local worm, prawns, and lures. For salmon, try your luck offshore or in the Broadribb River.
Bemm River - Currently the entrance is open with salmon and tailor chasing metal lures in the channel. Bream are still biting in the lake, on local prawns and lures. If you’re looking for action on the surf, salmon are grabbing pilchards and poppers with enthusiasm.
