East Gippsland acknowledges the Gunaikurnai, Monero and the Bidawel people as the Traditional Custodians of the land that encompasses East Gippsland Shire. We pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in East Gippsland, their Elders past and present.

Country Charm

Two rivers flow through the East Gippsland landscape forming the area known as Twin Rivers. The Nicholson River and the Tambo River meander their way from the High Country down to Lake King. The small towns of Nicholson, Johnsonville, Tambo Upper and Swan Reach make their footings along these banks.

Cycle along the East Gippsland Rail Trail and over the historic railway bridge or float downstream on a giant flamingo. Indulge in the views while sipping the latest selection from the Nicholson River Winery or launch the tinny and drop a line for a resident bream. If your catch is the one that got away, tie up within walking distance of The Nicholson Hotel or the Swan Reach Hotel for a feed and a cold one.

Take a drive through the picturesque flowing countryside, down a little lane, around the bend and just past the big gum tree. Locals will point you towards the single-vineyard winery, Tambo Wines, cellar door. Pick up a bottle to pair with your seasonal fresh blueberries and fruit which you can collect just a little further on down the road.
